Can CBD Help Relief Migraines And Headaches?

Published

on

Often whenever the discussion is on the medicinal value of using Cannabidiol (CBD), pain relief is always a dominating factor. Since migraines and headaches are a common source of pain for most people, it’s significant to consider using CBD as an alternative treatment. There’s evidence that the over-the-counter and prescription medication treatments have a huge collection of side effects that possibly come along with them.

Treatments such as the aspirin, acetaminophen, caffeine, and others are moderately safe if taken infrequently. But when they are consumed for a prolonged period of time, they pose a significant danger of developing ulcers, kidney failure or heart attacks especially if a patient relies on them on a daily basis. Furthermore, in severe cases, stronger drugs such as Imitrex or Treximet are prescribed. These drugs cause an increase in serotonin levels and can restraint blood vessels in the brain leading to sudden dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, or tightness in the chest.

A previous study reveals that opioid overdose is the leading cause of death in most people living in the US. For instance, ergotamines such as the Migranal and Ergomar are known to promote heart attacks, birth defects, strokes, or toxicosis if consumed together with antibiotics or other antifungal treatments. Unfortunately, FDA continues to approve the conventional drugs, despite the rampant side effects.

CBD is basically a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that doesn’t get one high and instead it interacts naturally with the body organs. The G-protein together with CB-1 and CB-2 receptors usually cooperate with the central nervous system thus improving the memory, pain sensation, appetite and immune response of the patient. The CBD normally acts as a supplement or a replacement in the case of an endocannabinoid deficiency and unlike the THC, CBD functions perfectly without overwhelming the cannabinoid receptors.

Mostly, migraines are caused by an endocannabinoid deficiency in a certain area of the brain, which can be easily rectified by a simple dosage of CBD supplement. Regrettably, one major fundamental challenge with considering the CBD as a significant alternative medical treatment for migraines and headaches is that there is a serious lack of adequate data and scientific research available to support its effectiveness.
