Mixing Nicotine With Marijuana Is A Health Risk

Published

on

For a long time, cannabis smokers have been mixing nicotine and weed in an attempt to experience a strong effect or a ‘high’. However, a recent study shows that it’s wrong to mix the two components especially when one is using it for medical reasons. This common practice among the smokers is posing more health risks associated with the increased exposure of harmful carcinogens found in the tobacco products.

The US Federal laws still classify marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug thus restricting scientists from conducting more research on the topic. But with an increased number of enthusiasts and the US states adopting a moderate attitude towards marijuana, more relevant data is building up on this medicinal plant. Recent studies have revealed that the cannabis consumption is more effective in other forms than the typical marijuana-tobacco mix.

The new findings on the use of marijuana are gradually changing the way the world perceive people who smoke weed. The image and stigma linked to the cannabis is slowly changing as people learn better ways of using the plant to cure many medical conditions. Smoking tobacco put one’s health at a high risk of developing chronic diseases such as throat cancer, COPD, lung cancer, asthma, and teeth and gum disorders. Also, it doesn’t make sense to mix marijuana, a herb that contains the anti-cancer elements with tobacco, a substance that is strongly associated to cancer development.

A study conducted by Harm Reduction Journal in 2005 revealed that although tobacco smoke and cannabis smoke have related chemical properties, the two components have different pharmacological activities that are not similarly carcinogenic. In addition, marijuana smoke contains various cannabinoids which are generally the anti-cancer components.

There are a huge variety of alternative stuffs that can be mixed with marijuana. Most of them provide the same experience without exposing your body to the nicotine and tobacco side-effects. Furthermore, smoking marijuana, even with no tobacco is still not the safest way to consume medical cannabis. A new finding reveals that vaping is the healthiest alternative. Other safe forms include edibles, dabs, patches, oils, or tinctures, since they don’t require inhaling of smoke.
