The US Patent And Trademark Office Awards A Patent to Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ZYNE) For The Treatment Of Fragile X Syndrome

The US Patent And Trademark Office has awarded a patent to Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ZYNE). The company received patent No. 10,471,022 under the title ‘Treatment of Fragile X Syndrome with Cannabidiol.’ It has a validity of up to 2038. The patent allows the company to administer 500 mg or 250 mg of CBD in the form of a cream or gel daily to cure Fragile X Syndrome.

Zygel, the transdermal CBD product candidate of Zynerba, is undergoing a study in Connect-FX to evaluate the safety and efficacy in patients suffering from Fragile X Syndrome. The company will report the reports of the study in the first half of next year.

Reduction in seizures

Zynerba posted positive results from Zygel phase-two trial in adolescents and children suffering from epileptic encephalopathies. The company observed reductions in seizure and improved tolerability during the first phase trial of the drug.

Remarkable progress

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Zynerba, Armando Anido, said the company achieved remarkable progress in Q3 2019. He said the company reported positive results in terms of safety and tolerability in the six month trial of Zygel in phase 2. The drug helped to achieve up to a 58% reduction in seizures in the six-month trial.

Cognitive impairments and socio-behavioral changes are common in patients with seizures. Caregivers observed improvements in seizure duration and intensity in their kids. The company is enrolling patients that include adolescents and children suffering from Fragile X Syndrome in the Connect-FX trial. It will report the results of the study next year in the first half.

Establishes a new subsidiary in Australia

Zynerba incorporated a new subsidiary – Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd in Australia to focus on R&D. It qualifies to receive a tax incentive for research and development. The Australian Taxation Office will offer a portion of the spending on R&D as a cash incentive to the subsidiary of Zynerba.

The R&D expenses of the company in Q3 2019 are $6.67 million, an increase of $1.8 million from the same period last year. Zynerba spent the amount mainly on clinical trial and production.

Zynerba reported a net loss of $1.9 million in Q3 2019.
